Zildjian ALCHEM-E Sound Test- Crunch Time
🎧 Recommended 🎧
Exploring another preset kit on these @zildjiancompany ALCHEM-E drums. The actual samples for this specific kit just so happen to have been recorded by one of the most prolific recording drummers on the planet 🥁 💪 Not my usual style of playing, but high energy break beats and this track just seemed to fit.

Checking out another preset on the ALCHEM-E electronic drum kit. So fun to play. These are some big, beefy drums so definitely listen with some decent headphones 🎧 Raw audio straight out of the module, no added effects or editing.

Quick sound test of just one of the preset kits (Norwell Custom). Completely unedited, raw sound straight from the module. Throw on some decent 🎧 and check it out! I’m a little biased, but this kit looks, feels, and sounds killer.

Spreading a little positivity this holiday season A couple years ago our family started a tradition of leaving out little treats and drinks for delivery drivers around the holidays. I figured they spend enough time at our house, the least we could do was offer them some refreshments 😁 It’s nothing huge, but it’s been SO FUN for us and the kids to watch their reactions (through our Ring doorbell...

Just picked up another killer snare from SJC! 14x7 6-ply maple in a Blue Pearl Fade wrap. Also threw a 21" 60's Zildjian ride w/rivets into my setup for the first time and took it for a test drive. Audio/video recorded using only the internal mics on my Zoom q8 with no editing. Still working on getting the best balance in my audio recordings, welcome any tips!

Very impressed with this new entry into the edrum market.
Those cymbals sound so freaking good. Please for the love of the drum gods zildjian needs to release a standalone cymbal pack. It would be nice if electronic drums could get to the point of acoustic drums where you can mix and match. DW has the best signal pathway (wireless). Roland has the best pads. Alesis has the best drum brain. Zildjian has the best cymbals. And then you got yammah bringing up the rear with alternative pad design and alternative electric acoustic recording with the ead10.
Who told you alesis had the best module? Someone like to you 😅.
@@dewayne5533 Alesis does though. Not software and sound wise but the physical unit of the recently released flagship is the best. It's basically a big iPad.
Apparently the latest firmware still misses hi-hat hits randomly (for example at around 0:48). I wonder if your kit registers stick hits happening simultaneously with hi-hat choke. Mine fails always. If it works for you, I would appreciate any configuration hints. Thank you!
Hey Alex! So we tried our best to have the trigger settings as dialed in for most players out of the box, but there’s so much adjustability with our system and everyone’s playing styles a little bit different, so it may just take a bit of tweaking in the hihat trigger settings. What I would suggest is going into the hihat trigger settings and experimenting with the detection sensitivity on the bow and the edge zones. Watch the indicators on the module that show which zone is activating as you hit the cymbal and adjust the detection sensitivity until it’s accurate as you’re playing it. Also, I assume you’ve done the hihat control calibration? If not, that is definitely the first step to a great playing hihat. If you continue to have issues even after adjusting some of those settings, definitely hit up Zildjian Customer Care. We have a team dedicated to handling ALCHEM-E related questions, so we will most definitely help and get your kit playing great for you 👍 zildjian.com/pages/contact
@@inertiadrummer Yes, I am already in contact with support, so far responses are quite quick, which is not quite common nowadays, hope you guys will manage to keep it this way. The issue I am referring to is not zones selection or random mistriggering. The module consistently ignores stick strokes if they coincide with foot chick. Confirmed by MIDI output. The issue becomes very apparent when you have hi hat stroke accentuated by slightly opening, followed by a stick stroke on normally closed hats in the next beat - there is no chick sound at all, as hats movement is very small, so volume of the chick is not audible, but the stick stroke is discarded by module, so you are getting a dead note. I have already shared a video with support. Just wanted to ask if your module shows the same behavior, and if not, may be sharing settings, there are quite a few of these.
This video showcases the real life sound of this kit and honestly it seems awesome. Im getting live mic'd vibes which is wild since its all electronic 😮
is this with the firmware shipping with kits then?
This is firmware that is not loaded on the module out of the box, but is now available on the Zildjian website to be downloaded, so you can update right away. So if you purchase a kit, you’ll need to download and install the v1.1 firmware and sound library to get up and running for the best performance 👍
@@inertiadrummer thanks.
Hopefully a module + cymbals pack will be available in the future.
Is that a 16" floor tom or a second 14" floor tom? How were you able to get additional toms? I haven't seen them available anywhere yet? Thanks!
Hey Matt! So that is an extra 14” floor tom, not a 16”. I actually work for Zildjian and I’m the lead on the ALCHEM-E project, so I have all of this gear for product development and testing. Not an easy gig, but it does have its perks 😁
@@inertiadrummer Oh nice! Tough job, but somebody has to do it! Well it seems like it's a great product and I'm looking to get one in the next few months and will definitely be looking to add additional toms and cymbals when available. Thanks for posting so we can get more info on the kit! And if you need a below average drummer to test some additional sized toms and cymbals let me know, I'd be happy to buy them when possible 😄
if only alesis prime strata module works on these and if only these does not cause as much as a car, I would buy 😂.
I'm listening on PC speakers (with sub) and sounds pretty legit. Sounds better than other videos I've watched. Cymbals seem a big leap for the industry. Too bad it cost almost as much as my car. I could never justify spending that kind of money on an E-kit. I'll stick with my Strike Pro SE for now.
This type of music makes want to buy a drum set.. Very nice playing man! Keep it coming!
Thank you so much! If you want hundreds of tracks like this, check out Tim Baltes on Bandcamp or @timbofromkeno on Instagram. That’s where I got them. He has a bunch of albums full of drumless backing tracks that are super fun to jam along to🤘
Great demo, this sounds great!! I'm wondering what your honest opinion of the cymbal triggering is. In your video it seems pretty darn good, but I notice that your playing is also very precise, your cymbal hits especially are 100% on pointe. I've seen some videos of this kit where it seems the cymbal triggering can be less than ideal if your hits aren't maybe as precise as yours are. Do you find any of that with this triggering system?? Is it something that can be mostly fixed within the module settings?? I know the hi-hats have some pretty powerful settings for adjusting to how your foot sits on the pedal and the pressures that you play with, do the other cymbals have in depth settings available as well?? Have you noticed any shortcomings in the triggering at all?? Again, great video, great playing. This video really shows the bar this kit is setting, I can't wait to see where they go with it!!
Hey thank you for the kind words 🙏 Yes, the trigger settings for all drums and cymbals have a ton of adjustability. You can tweak and dial things in to meet your particular playing style. Should be good out of the box but it really comes to life when you spend just a few minutes tweaking for your playing. The triggering is very accurate. Most videos out now were recorded using old software versions and/or have not totally adjusted cymbal settings within the module. Between the algorithms going on behind the scenes and the trigger setting adjustments you can make in the module, these things play just like the real thing, it’s so much fun🤘
How you feel the hihat on this verses VH-14
I’ll just say, there’s nothing like playing on actual alloy hihats like these 👍
So do you feel it’s better cause the hihat is the one problem e-kits have a trouble getting right
@@downnorthmusic these hihats are easily the best I’ve ever played. They are light, nuanced, and incredibly responsive.
@@inertiadrummer When I press down hard with my foot on hi-hat I feel it never has that tight sound, but I just played in a store and didn't calibrate the hi-hat like the Zildjian website shows. Hopefully I can fix that cause everything else feels great. Drums generally feel closest to real drums so far for e-kits. Feels like a version 1.0, but it is, so just imagine 2.0
You just might have the best available demonstration of this kit on UA-cam right now. For some reason very few videos show prolonged playing and a lot of them also sounded quite bad... Which gave me a bad first impression. But your performance here really impressed me, especially with how good the actual drums sounded.
🙏
Sounds really great. How does cross stick work? Noticed an accidental trigger at one point. Is is supposed to detect the hand pressure on the snare drum head?
Yeah there’s a couple in there, needed to dial down the cross stick sensitivity just a touch. Cross stick is a combination of velocity on the rim reading the head and shell/rim sensors.
Do you know what is the next firmware update about?
Yes. Mostly dialing in trigger settings even more and adding some instruments to the sound library.
@@inertiadrummer I think it would be a good idea to do this firmware before the lauch. I tried the gold kit in my Music Store and the triggering was terrible… I don’t know if it was just the setting configuration or not… It will be hard to sell unit like this..
@@user-os3hu7zc6k yessir, that’s exactly what we’re doing. These kits in store have pre-release firmware and may not all be dialed in correctly. There will be an optimized firmware v1.1 available right at launch middle of next month 👍 Big reason I shot this quick video, to show what the triggering can really do when it’s adjusted.
Epic playing. I guess we just found my new drum set.
Have you seen the price on this thing? Yikes.
@@sunnibird yes but I’m rich so

Sooo good! Perfect sound and really tasty playing.🤌
how'd you get yours so soon?
Hey there 👋 I work for Zildjian, I’m actually the lead on the ALCHEM-E project (which is why I mentioned I’m a bit biased 😅). Wanted to throw together a quick video so people could see a little bit more of how the kit can really play when it’s dialed in, and this still isn’t the final firmware we’ll have ready by June. Much more to come!
@@inertiadrummer ah! wish these were shipping now. also any ideas where I can test one in PORTLAND OREGON?
@@ledoov there should be a demo kit at the Beaverton Guitar Center you can check out! It won’t have final firmware just yet but you can get an idea of how the kit plays.
@@inertiadrummer SWEET
@@inertiadrummer are all the kits samples of real kits or "digital" like Roland? I really just want great sounding real sounds if possible similar to how I've triggered superior drum 3 samples. But I hate having to do that I just want a great module.

Hey! No this is the Mike Johnston cymbal pack- 14" Extra Dry hi hats 20" extra-thin crash 21" signature Mike Johnston Transition Ride 18" extra-dry thin crash I’ve since switched to all Zildjian Special Dry Ks and K Cons, very very happy 👍
That‘s funny .. I think also to switch to Zildjian .. Playin since 15 Years Meinl ... The Byzance Series are Great .. All of them ... But i want something new.. I See ..
The second song is fine the only thing I'd do differently is accentuate the 3 or 6/8 feel a a Lil more with the hi hat ( chick the 3 then 2,3 to make waltz) but to each their own I'm not a rock guy nor did I grow up listening to the music so I don't know what's right other than the recording which probably doesn't do what I just mentioned 😅🤷heck if I know
Side stick strickly to a halftime feel will help feel immensely toss in 12" tom on 4& to add a loping feel. Try playing it only on 4😉loosen up relax open up but keep the time firm and solid. Purely constructive criticism, keep it up and best wishes 👌🤙
